Many people were doubting Kobe Bryant's health this season and some even doubted whether he had the same drive he's had in the past. I can understand questioning his health but to question whether Kobe is going to give it everything he has is where many doubters went wrong. This season Kobe has really shown that he is a seasoned veteran. Since entering the league it was no secret that Kobe's goal was to try and be better than his idol Michael Jordan, hence getting his number change to 24. On his chase to his 7th NBA Finals appearance and 6th NBA final which would match MJ, Kobe is showing that he has no plans on falling short on his pursuit of his 6th championship. The Lakers have only lost one game since the All-Star break where Kobe won MVP and most recently he was one assist shy of a triple double. The Black Mamba dropped 42pts, 12 rebounds and 9 assists in a triple overtime thriller vs. the Pheonix Suns.

NBA: Blake Griffin 1st Triple-Double In 2OT Win vs. Wizards (March 20th-26th)
With all the highlights and all-star numbers from Blake Griffin many people may have thought that a triple-double was something that he had already done this season. Even though Blake is known for his ridiculous athleticism anyone who watches a whole Clipper game can tell that Griffin is much more than just athleticism. He has a quickness, touch and feel for the game that is very rare amongst someone of his size. Even in his first full year of an NBA season Griffin has shown consistent growth in his game and that is clearly evident as he recorded his 1st ever triple-double in double overtime vs. John Wall's Wizards. “It means a lot, but the best part about it was getting the win,” Griffin said after finishing with 33 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists in a career-high 51 1/2 minutes.“It’s always great to keep your teammates involved and keep them going, but you also have to give credit to these guys for hitting shots. It was pretty draining. We just needed to tough it out.”

#MYOL News: Nate Dogg Passes Away (March 13th-19th)
#MYOL News: One-Legged Anthony Robles Wins Division 1 Wrestling Championship (March 13th-19th)
I'm a sports advocate, no matter what sport it is. For someone to dedicate themselves to anything arts, sports, etc shows a commitment and character. Physical sports are even harder to dedicate yourself to because on top of the mental fatigue you also feel the physical bumps and bruises. Wrestling is one of those sports where you experience both mental and physical fatigue. There are many people born with disabilities that don't allow them to participate in sports. Some of those disabilities do not allow people to participate at all and some disabilities just put others at a disadvantage. Having only one leg while wrestling is a major disadvantage. What I really love about sports is that although everyone may not have the same level of talent, once you hit the floor, field, mat, etc is that everyone's hunger to win is on an even level. Heart is something that certain people are either born or not born with. Watch this video above as Anthony Robles shows you what heart can do for you even with one leg! Shouout to Anthony Robles who definitely made his lane like no other! This is not the last the world will hear from Anthony Robles!
#MYOL News: Will Smith Replaces 30 Laptops To School In Philly (March 13th-19th)
After a school in West Philly reported that 60 laptops were stolen, The Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation and the Charlie Mack Cares organization donated 30 new laptops to replace some of the stolen ones. The Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation was created to help inner-city children and their families. Will Smith is giving back to the community he grew up in. The accomplished rapper-turned-actor’s foundation, Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation, teamed up with the Charlie Mack Cares organization to gift West Philly High School with 30 computers. The donation replaced some of the 60 computers stolen from the school last month.
According to NBC Philadelphia, the equipment stolen was worth $80,000 and included 58 laptops, two desktops and an LCD projector. Ironically the burglary came just as the school was celebrating its 100th anniversary. Surveillance video revealed three people wearing masks and gloves running through the school’s hallways on the day of the burglary. The suspects have since been apprehended and charged with the crime. Police were able to recover only half of the stolen property, when Smith and his friend, Mack stepped in giving laptops and a desktop computer to the school.
Known for his philanthropy, Smith was honored at the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Annual Tribute Dinner in 2009. “Will often gets honored for the great talent he is, and it’s just fantastic to see him being honored for the great man that he is,” his wife Jada said during the event.
The Will and Jada Smith Foundation supports acts to improve the welfare of inner-city families and education.
#MYOL News: Happy Birthday Quincy Jones! (March 13th-19th)
#MsLMstatus:Happy Birthday Queen Latifah (March 13th-19th)
From hardcore female MC to an entertainment icon, the "Queen" is the epitome of #MsLMstatus. From the beginning of her music career she let us know that if you were called her a bitch you would get "punch dead in your eye" on her first hit single "U.N.I.T.Y.". She helped pioneer a Hip Hop sound that is used by many MCs today both male and female. Her abililty to kick hot, heartfelt lyrics and sing on a track was helping her sell millions of records way before Nelly came along. In true #MsLM status form she capitalized on her success as a rapper and after her second single "Just Another Day" the Queen began her takeover in Hollywood. She is now an executive producer, director and actress with a Golden Globe award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Image Awards, a Grammy Award, six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah came in the game demanding respect as a black woman and has set an example for many people aspiring to reach their dreams in music, entertainment but more importantly life and philanthropy.
Hip Hop History: SXSW Panel - What Hip Hop Gave America (March 13th-19th)
Chart-topping work by black artists
In the 1950s, The Crew-Cuts remade “Earth Angel,” a song originally done by The Penguins. The Crew-Cuts version went higher the charts. In the 1980s, Robert Palmer remade “I didn’t mean to turn you on,” a song first performed by Cherelle. His version was more successful. In both ages, Charnas argued, radio and TV stations rarely played music by black and white artists. As hip-hop began to get radio play, its success exploded – no no “translation” needed, as Charnas put it. “It can’t just be the biggest thing in black culture,” Wilson said. “It has to be the biggest thing in pop culture.”
Hustling
All this viral marketing we’ve seen down at SXSW, all the stickers, fliers, street teams and semi-secret events – they all came from hip-hop, Charnas contends. Early on, rappers couldn’t get their music on labels, on radio or TV, so they had to promote it themselves. It worked, in a big, big way. “Suddenly, there was a whole industry built around this stuff,” Charnas said. There’s something to think about for all those folks handing out USB drives full of indie rock or stickers for hard-core bands.
Super-empowered artist moguls
Once upon a time, artists would approach labels and ask for branding that would give them a larger audience, even as it sacrificed their control over their work. Enter Wu Tang Clan and a deal that allowed them to sign as a group while all nine members could continue to create solo work. “Instead of artists looking to be branded by the label, labels were looking to be branding by the artists,” Charnas said. That led to bigger and better deals, and hip-hop leaders commanding their own business.
Hip-hop in the corporate world
Charnas played a commercial that will probably appear in my nightmares for the next few weeks: Rapping chicken nuggets. As he explained, “It was a big joke, a big joke to corporate America, this rap stuff.” But it didn’t take long for corporations to notice there was a serious and growing audience for hip-hop, and they couldn’t treat it as a fad, or approach it with rhyming puppet nuggets.
President Barack Obama
The president wasn’t elected only by rap stars, but panelists argued that a generation familiar with hip-hop had to happen before Obama could’ve won.
“He’s a great orator. He gives great speeches. He’s not a rapper. He’s a little bit older, but we look at this guy, and he kind of understands this stuff…he’s gonna keep our point of view in the politics of the world,” Wilson said.
Stone took it a step further: “This is hip-hop’s America. That’s the America I live in, and the America I want to live in. Very diverse. The vote for Obama was a vote for this vision of America.”

#MsLMstatus: International Women’s Day Marks 100 Years! + #MsLMstatus Definition (March 6th-12th)
A decade ago International Women’s Day was disappearing. Activity in Europe, where International Women’s Day actually began, was very low. Providing a global online platform helped sustain and accelerate momentum for this important day. Holding only a handful of events ten years ago, the United Kingdom has now become the global leader for International Women’s Day activity, followed sharply by Canada, United States and Australia. 2011 will see thousands of events globally for the first time. Suffragettes campaigned for women’s right to vote. The word ‘Suffragette’ is derived from the word “suffrage” meaning the right to vote. International Women’s Day honours the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women’s success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed. The first International Women’s Day event was run in 1911. 2011 is the Global Centenary Year. Make everyday International Women’s Day. Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding!
In the 100th year of Internationals Women's Day I want to give a clear definition of what #MsLMstatus means. #MsLMstatus is hashtag that I use on Twitter (@makeyourownlane) to show love and appreciation for all the motivated, educated and beautiful women in the world, inside and out (more importantly inside). There is no clear definition for #MsLMstatus but I created this hashtag off the brand that I've created Lane Makers Entertainment. The motivation comes from all the beautiful women that have influenced my life starting with my mother. She is a wife, mother, sister, daughter, career woman and so much more but I always want to celebrate her and woman like her. There is nothing wrong with celebrating and encouraging women because they are the ones who support us when no one else will. The #MsLMstatus distinction is made not to seperate women Lane Makers from men but to show special appreciation to the women that take care of their families, make their own lanes and advance humanity! #MYOL ladies!
#MYOL News: Bill Clinton Teams Up With Drake For New Fundraiser (March 6th-12th)
Funds raised during the evening will benefit The Clinton Foundation’s Millennium Network, which encourages young students and activists under the age of 45 to get involved with the work of The Clinton Foundation, to address global challenges like climate change, childhood obesity and economic development at home and abroad. President Clinton will open the fundraiser with opening remarks, Drake will close the event out with a performance. Does this mean we will see a more politically active side from Drake? With his mixed background and feel good lifestyle, Drake could be a major advocate for the Democrats and President Obama in 2012 presidential elections. Either way Drake continues to make his own lane and history as he only has one album out and is killing the game! Drizzy #MYOL!
Hip Hop History: RIP Christopher "B.I.G." Wallace & Shaq ESPN Tribute To B.I.G. (March 6th-12th)
There will never be a better lyricist, MC, entertainer and artist than Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace ever again. These days new artists ae hitting the scene and the spotlight at 25 and with all of B.I.G.’s accomplishments he didn’t live to see past 25 years old. To remind you this is the time where 2Pac, Wu-Tang, Nas and many other icon figures in the rap game were dropping albums and Hip Hop classics that Biggie was the king of the rap game. All those artists that I mentioned were threatened by Biggie, his music, movement, etc. almost 15 years later and its like B.I.G. continues to live on as the music he made in his early 20s is still better than EVERYBODY who is putting out NEW music now. Truly the “Greatest Rapper of All-Time”! RIP B.I.G. you were an example of dreams coming trueand your influence over Hip Hop and more importantly the ghetto will never be forgotten!
Hip Hop History: Eminem, 1st Rapper w/ 2 Diamond Albums - "Marshall Mathers LP" and "The Eminem Show" (March 6th-12th)
With two top-ten and four top fifteen singles with "Without Me", "Cleanin' Out My Closet", "Sing For The Moment" and "Superman" this album is a classic. There are only 5 other studio albums that have also gone diamond and Eminem is the only rapper ever to have two diamond albums! The other albums are PAC “All Eyez On Me”, BIG “Life After Death”, EMINEM “The Marshall Mathers LP”, OUTKAST “Speakerboxx/The Love Below, AND MC HAMMER “Please Hammer Don’t Hurt Em”! Wow MC Hammer, that’s hilarious! Now Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” is also on that list, Eminem makes Hip Hop History almost ever week! He is officially back and on top of the game again! Just keep killing shit with those 16’s Em, Midwest stand up!
Hip Hop: Prodigy of Mobb Deep Released From Prison After 3 Years! (March 6th-12th)
The self-proclaimed H.N.I.C. and Mobb Deep legend Prodigy was released from prison after being locked up for 3 years. Prodigy and Havoc are classic for their street bangers and its been a while since there has been one out of NYC. Hopefully, P and Alchmist are cooking up something crazy, maybe HNIC 2? I hope so because I’m a big fan of the H.N.I.C. album. Either way, welcome home Prodigy and I hope you can come out, make good music and realize that a lot of kids look up to you so do the right thing for them! Thats from the #HMIC, yall will learn more about what I mean as time goes on! #MYOL
NBA: Lakers Kobe Bryant passes Moses Malone; 6th NBA’s All-Time Scoring List! Shaq Next! (March 6th-12th)
Moses Malone is a big man that is mentioned in the same breath as some of the most of the great power forwards of all-time like Tim Duncan, Kevin Michael, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley and more but he can make an argument that he is extremely close. In the last two days, 2 of Malone’s all-time records were broken in the week of March 6th-12th. First Malone’s leading consecutive double-double all-time record was broken by new superstar Kevin Love and the next day Kobe Bryant passes him for 5th all-time on the NBA’s scoring list. Kobe Bryant has been playing in the NBA since he was 19 years old and although many compare Kobe to Jordan because of the similarities in his game, their paths to the NBA couldn’t be anymore opposite. Kobe is the greatest success story from the high school to NBA draft era. With those valuable years of experience and his great skills Kobe has used that time in the NBA to become a playing legend and it is truly amazing to watch as a real basketball fan, former basketball player and basketball junkie!
NBA: Kevin Love Becomes Consecutive Double-Double All-Time Leader w/ 52 (March 6th-12th)
It's been 35 years! I’ll say it again, Kevin Love isn’t your typical NBA All-Star physically or when it comes to how the prototypical NBA basketball player looks today. Let get onw thing straight though and that is that this kid can play basketball. On Tuesday, March 15, 2011 Kevin Lobe became the all-time consecutive double-double leader in NBA history. He beat out the great Moses Malone who held the record at 51 consecutive double-doubles. This a record and accomplishment that will not be broken for a while as it takes a great amount of skill to be able to rebound as such a high rate as well as a great amount of effort to sacrifice your body every night the way Love does. Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum and others have the physical make-up to break the record but their skill and basketball IQ doesn’t compare to one of the games newest power forward Kevin Love! Congratulations to Love on breaking the record and I hope he sets and breaks more throughout his career.
